Tombstone Mexican Restaurant Mt Lawley       FizzyChip 07-01-2009

Food:

This is such a brilliant Tex Mex restaurant - we will definitely come back. Food is lovely, fresh, presented well and tasted amazing. The serving sizes are great too, we really ordered too much, with nachos and guacamole to start between the four of us, we then struggled to finish our mains - bean burrito, chilli con carne burrito x 2 & "Doc Holiday" chicken (chicken pieces cooked with a salsa sause).

Service:

Service is good, the wait staff are very personable and attentive without being annoying, and the owner came out to see how our meal was going - a nice touch. I called ahead to check it was ok to bring our own birthday cake (it was) and the staff kindly brought it out, already cut with candles lit.

Ambience:

Good - a wide screen plasma over the bar, playing a variety of music clips created a lively atmosphere. The restaurant is an eclectic collection of western memorabilia, with warm coloured walls and comfortable booths along the wall.

Overall:
This is a great restaurant - it's difficult to find a good Mexican restaurant NOR, but this one does it. Very friendly place, great prices - it was $120.00 for the four of us, and we ordered several cocktails as well as wine and beer. My only difficulty with this place was that it's not very wheelchair friendly - up two flights of stairs - and the toilets are shared with the adjoining squash courts. Still, that's a minor point when the food is so awesome. Do try this place.

Benny's (8) Fremantle       tash695231 07-01-2009

Food:

The food was pretty average, I had the salmon salad and found that the tomatoes had that floury taste which was not pleasant to bite into. It also looked like it was thrown together with no thought to presentation. My partner had a chicken dish and he said that it was quite nice.

Service:

Service, as my previous experience here, was still not up to scratch. We got served much faster than before, but we sat right next to the desk where they do the bread so they could not have missed us.

Ambience:

Very bright and airy. It has much potential to be a great place to go and grab a bite to eat and catch up with friends. The service of this place unfortunately lets it down.

Overall:
I did not want to go back to this place, as I feel that it encourages bad service, but since it was a public holiday and not much else was opened we decided to go in. It is disappointing to waste money in a place that obviously does the food as an after thought and I will not be going back there or recommending this to anyone.

Spinnakers Restaurant (2) Hillarys       hogber 06-01-2009

Food:

The range of the menu is a little lacking and the consistency of dishes varies. The kippers for breakfast and calamari for lunch and dinner are the standout meals. For dinner, my partner and I always order two dishes to share, the calamari and another dish, invariably the calamari is devoured but the other dish is left half eaten.

For breakfast the Kippers is the standout meal, my partner and I will both order this meal if given the chance. However you have to be lucky for there to be any - there is often disappointment after being told that there are no kippers on that day. There is the usual breakfast menu as well and this is dealt with adequately, although nothing unique or out of the ordinary.

Service:

The service at spinnakers is unfortunately what lets the experience down. The staff are inconsitent in their service and today I felt like I was inconveniencing the staff by simply ordering a coffee at morning tea time - when the restaurant was half empty!

Ambience:

There is often a buzz about the restaurant with the tables full, unfortunately the staff seem unable to deal with the number of customers and your often forgotten. When the restaurant isn't full though the staff are friendly and do try hard.

Overall:
Overall the consistency of meals and service lets the overall experience down. On a good day the experience is quite pleasant, on a bad day the food is average and the service is non existent. As they say you're only as good as the last meal, and unfortunately I think I have had my last meal at spinnakers. I wont be returning.

Little Caesars Pizzeria (6) Mundaring       Vivi 05-01-2009

Food:

Superb, inventive, consistent. The Mediterranean Squid, Greek Lamb, 'The Don', and Mud Honey Pizzas are favourites. Prices vary from $10 - $26, depending on toppings and size of pizza. Small selection of pastas and salads also available. Few pizzerias in Perth compare - and I've been to plenty!

Service:

Constantly busy, but accurate estimates of waiting times given when ordering takeaways. Basic service when dining in - this is mainly a takeaway place, due to size.

Ambience:

Noisy, busy, warm. Friendly atmosphere - frantic at times, but well organised. Approximately 3 inside booths and a couple of tables. Several outside tables, with heaters at night. Not suitable for romantic candlelit dinners.

Overall:
Well worth a visit- only 40 mins from the city. Its probably best to plan a daytime visit to the Hills area, ending with the pizzas after 4pm. Unlike most cafes/restaurants in the Hills, its also open on a Sunday evening. A local institution, Little Caesars is always well patronised, and offers consistent, innovative pizzas.

Monza Pasta & Risotto (7) Leederville       jodachef 05-01-2009

Food:

The food was a little disappointing, the tasting plate was really nothing more than a few jars being opened and put on a platter, with two slices of cheap smoke salmon, a couple pieces of turkish bread and cold frittatta, the mains were also very uninspiring i had the crab pasta which had no flavour and was made with packet pasta and for the prices I would have expected fresh pasta. other mains were pan-fried baramundi, atlantic salmon, and a very bland szechuan pepper squid salad with no szechwan in sight.

Service:

The waitress didn't smile or talk much & didn't really know the difference between the food and tried to tell us the salmon was the barramundi, and didn't believe me when i told her it was actually the salmon. the staff reached over us and the table all night, nearly hitting me in the head once.

Ambience:

The restaurant decor is nice, great music, not to noisy, but was very hot, and not to busy considering it was a Saturday night. They market the restaurant as a little piece of Manhattan in Leederville... I think they need to go to Manhattan and see what Manhattan is really like

Overall:
Overall the night was very disappointing considering how good the food and service at Monza used to be. when the senior staff members have no idea about the food and drinks they are serving, they have some major issues. i don't think we will be rushing back to soon, especially with the uninspiring food and poor service we experienced, we just seemed to be hassle for the staff.

Jojo's River Cafe (5) Nedlands       LAtelier 05-01-2009

Food:

Passable. We ordered the calamari which was pleasant. The chicken and spinach pasta seemed to be cooked with something that tasted like a teriyaki based sauce which although not unpleasant wasn't crash hot either. We ordered the turkish bread with dips and got 4 pieces of turkish bread and about 8 slices of a baguette - we really wanted to eat turkish bread.....

Cakes in the display looked stale with only the tiramisu and the cheesecake looking fresh, so we picked the tiramisu which turned out to be quite nice.

Service:

Staff a bit harried in the hot weather. Took half hour to get our order taken and a soft drink ordered with the meal never came. Not bad service, but could be better.

Ambience:

Very busy sunday afternoon. Had a table next to the kitchen with bad ventilation. Location lovely. Could be quite pleasant.

Overall:
Would give it another go when the weather cools down.

Sebastian's Italian Cafe (15) East Victoria Park       mrbikkies 04-01-2009

Food:

My partner and I ordered some basic pasta dishes - carbonara and chicken pasta (forget dish name). Both were very filling and tasty.

Service:

The service was prompt and friendly.

Ambience:

The ambience was lovely. We sat outside and watched the busy Vic Park strip whilst we ate. It was well shaded and surprisingly quiet.
